Citing Sources

APA-style Citation for ProQuest articles

Note: Citation styles continue to evolve. The American Psychological Assocation's Web site (www.apa.org) does not always agree with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 4th ed. These examples are based on the APA Web site, the Publication Manual, and other credible sources. If you aren't sure how to cite something, please ask your instructor or a librarian.

Magazines, newspapers and scholarly journals each have a slightly different format. The generic format is:

Author's Last name, First initial. [ +second initial, if known.] (Year of print publication in parentheses). Title of article without quotation marks, only first word and proper nouns capitalized. Title of periodical and volume number italicized, (issue number in parentheses), page numbers of print version. Retrieved [month day, year] from vendor name (database name) on the World Wide Web: <http://proquest.umi.com/pqdweb>

Example: ProQuest magazine article

Schaefer, B. E. (1998, December). Meteors that changed the world. Sky and Telescope, 96(6), 68-75. Retrieved September 25, 2006 from Proquest on the World Wide Web: <http://proquest.umi.com/pqdweb>

In these examples, references are shown with a hanging indent. APA style allows either hanging indent or first line indent, so long as one or the other is used consistently.

When using a word processor, use one space following a period, and double-spacing.
