SFCC Library Guide

Non Western Art Internet Sites

Art History Resources on the Web
http://witcombe.sbc.edu/ARTHLinks.html
Pick your cultural region. Lots of sites, some very rich in information and images. This site is also linked to our home page under ART on the SFCC Library Internet Sources page.
Art and Culture
http://www.artandculture.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/ACLive.woa/wa/home
A good site for 20th century artists. Choose “Visual Arts – 20th Century Art”. There is an alphabetical list of artists. If you click on “geography” the list will be arranged by country. For example under Nigeria appears Yinka Shonabare. His entry gives a brief biography, a description of his work, and links to other sites with information and examples of his work. The section on Tribal and Indigenous Art is under construction. Art and Culture is also linked from the SFCC Internet Sources page.
Encyclopedia Mythica
http://www.pantheon.org
Comprehensive, but many entries only briefly identify. Longer entries on major figures. Overviews of mythology of the culture. Has images also. Good search engine.
Mythology Web
http://library.thinkquest.org/C005854/text/index.htm
Try “Myths from the World” at this site.

Search Engines

May be useful for very specific topics. Try a more selective engine like GOOGLE (http://www.google.com).
